West Park Healthcare Centre is the regional rehabilitation centre for
the western Greater Toronto Area, and a local provider of complex
continuing and long-term care. West Park provides a wide variety of
ambulatory and complex continuing care services for persons with
multiple sclerosis. Its Regional Multiple Sclerosis Service (RMSSS)
serves clients from the Toronto area and throughout Ontario.
Opened in 1904, West Park Healthcare Centre has had a rich and colourful
history. It has evolved from one of Canada’s largest tuberculosis
sanitariums into a modern 500-bed facility dedicated to specialized
rehabilitation, complex continuing and long-term care. The lovely
park-like grounds are equipped with many innovative features that
provide ease of access for everyone, contributing to an enhanced quality
of life for the residents.
West Park Healthcare Centre provides specialized in-patient MS services,
as well as a neurological day hospital and ambulatory clinics (urology,
chiropody, seating, etc.) for those with MS living in the community. The
off-site Gage Transitions to Independent Living Service offers life
skills development opportunities to adults with disabilities.
West Park Healthcare Centre is affiliated with the University of
Toronto, and is involved in teaching and clinical research activities.
Access to the long-term care services is through York Community Care
Access Centre, 416-780-1919.
